Great Blue Heron, Photograph by Len Blumin

From my bird buddy, Len Blumin:

One of the joys of revisiting favored spots and seeing familiar birds is that the birds are often seen in a new light and acting in unexpected ways.   Perhaps that’s part of what is so endlessly fascinating about birding…

Abbott’s Lagoon last week …. On leaving we crossed the bridge that separates the “lagoon” from big “pond” and watched this adult Great Blue Heron walking most deliberately down a sandy bank to forage in the weeds along the shore of the pond.   Almost too close for a photo, but the marked overcast softened the colors nicely.
